THE VIRGINIA NETWORK OF INTERIM MINISTERS

In 2012 a number of Interim Ministers in the state of Virginia recognized the need for a support group and began to discuss the possibility of banding together to encourage, strengthen, and learn from one another as each shared a common ministry of serving churches that were facing transition and the unique challenges that interim ministries present.

Before long, more ministers were surveyed, and the groundwork was laid to create an official body that would meet the needs of the pastors as well as promote and strengthen interim ministry in the many churches throughout Virginia who found themselves without a minister. The Virginia Network of Interim Ministers, VNIM, was born. The purpose of this network was to provide fellowship, support, and counsel for interim ministers and to promote and strengthen interim ministry in churches without a minister.

In October of 2023, for a variety of reasons, the membership decided that it was time to dissolve the Network as of October 31, 2023. The funds that have accumulated in the treasury were dispersed to the Baptist General Association of Virginia for the sole purpose of being “used only for registration scholarships for Interim Ministry training at the Annual Chaplain Training in partnership with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.” Scholarships will be offered as long as the funds last.

We are grateful to God for the friendships that have been nurtured through the eleven years that the VNIM offered fellowship, training, and counsel for interim ministers in Virginia. We are also grateful that our legacy will be that of helping other ministers in Interim Ministry. For information on these scholarships please contact Ken Kessler at Ken.Kessler@bgav.org.
